Sain jokin aika sitten luettua loppuun Herman Lindqvistin kirjoittaman kirjan Madame de Pompadour – Äly, kauneus, valta.

Kirja antaa aivan uuden näkökulman yhteen historian tunnetuimmista rakastajattarista. Ennen kirjan lukemista mielikuvani Pompadourista olivat epämääräiset, jopa hieman kielteiset; kirjan luettuani ymmärsin, miten valtava merkitys madame de Pompadourilla oli koko rokokoon kannalta.

P.S. Hauskaa juhannusta kaikille! :D

Translation: This post is just a book tip. The book I’m discussing tells about Madame de Pompadour and is written by Herman Lindqvist, but I’m not sure, has the book been translated into English. Anyway, it is a very good book, so good that it feels almost like reading a novel! The book also features many pictures of madame de Pompadour herself and many other people too. All pictures in this article are from the book, and all of these are of madame de Pompadour. This book really helped me to understand better, what a huge influence madame de Pompadour had for entire Rococo! So if you happen to find it in English, I recommend that you read it.

The Confessions of a Lolita, part 1

Lolitatunnustuksia, osa 1

The Confessions of a Lolita, part 1

When I know that in a few days I will be able to dress in lolita, I plan my entire oufit ready. Then I put it on a hanger in my room. I look at it in the evenings, and think that soon I will be wearing it. It cheers up the rainy days.

Baletissa

Bolero, mekko, sukat: Angelic Pretty
Laukku: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
Kengät: Minna Parikka
Käsikoru: Ibero
Hiusruusut: H&M

Lady Rose takaapäin. Katsokaa nyt oikeasti tuota pitsipaljoutta! Pistää miettimään, montako (kymmentä) metriä tähän mekkoon on upotettukaan pitsejä...

Translation: Me and my boyfriend went to Lahti to meet with Mimi and her fiancee. We went to see the National Ballet's show, which was wonderful. After that we ate in Italian restaurant Mamma Maria, and the food was so delicious! I also bought two of my favorite teas - or so I thought! It turned out that this Geisha tea was not the one I was looking for. Let's hope it still tastes good! My outfit for the day was Angelic Pretty's Lady Rose, this is the first time I wore it. ♥ I just adore all those lace ruffles on the back!

30 Days Lolita Meme - Days 2 & 3

Day 2 – 10 things you love in lolita.

1. The historical influences lolita has. Oh, my darling Rococo! ♥
2. The complete femininity of it all – bows, frills, ruffles, laces.
3. The ever so difficult combination of cuteness and elegance.
4. The rules! How cool, if you just remember to follow certain rules…
5. … you can also break them! It’s so nice to find your own, personal style in lolita.
6. The wonderful people – my friends! – who I would never have met if there wasn’t lolita.
7. Lolita is a perfect reason and excuse to have photoshoots – yay!
8. Lolita is a perfect reason and excuse to just get all dolled up – doing the makeup, curling hair, wearing special clothes – for no other reason than “it’s fun, and I felt like doing so!”
9. I also love the complexity of it all. Is it just clothes? Is it even more? Do we ever find it out?! (Well, to me, it has always been even more.)
10. Finally and most importantly, I love how beautiful I feel when wearing lolita.

Day 3 – 10 things you hate in lolita.

1. Big, glompy shoes! I just… don’t… like them. In my opinion, they can ruin outfits that would be so perfect without them.
2. How hot it is to wear petticoats in the summer! Yet, I can’t go lolita without petticoats, because I just can’t! No blouse – ok! No socks – well, why not! No petticoat – impossible!
3. The hate communities. I just can’t understand them! So ok, you didn’t like somebody’s outfit – that’s fine, but why can’t you just let it be? If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.
4. The custom fees. So, I’ve paid a lot for my lovely dress – I’ve also paid quite a lot for insured shipping of said lovely dress – so why do you have to take away the little money I still have left? WHY?!
5. How hard it is to find white, perfect lolita boots for winter. Will I ever get them?
6. The name of this style, is it really necessary that we call it lolita? Why couldn’t the Japanese people Google “Lolita” before naming the style lolita? It’s so embarrassing, when asked by total strangers, try to explain the difference between lolita and Nabokov’s Lolita (“No, will you believe me, they do not have anything in common!”).
7. The staring. I’ve never dressed lolita in order to get attention from strangers. Yes, it’s quite nice if someone compliments you – but it totally isn’t nice to be laughed at or pointed at.
8. The petticoats. I love them, but I also have to be careful not to knock things off the shelves in shops, and not to get my dress stuck anywhere so it would get ripped, and don’t even let me get started on how difficult it is to use public, cramped toilets when wearing lolita…
9. Too big lolita meet ups. It gets so complicated! I really enjoy little meetings with just 10 participants, or even less.
10. The jealousy. No need for it! If I have more dresses than you, so what? If you have more dresses than I do, again, so what? It’s not like the world will end in my closet, or yours either.

30 Days Lolita Meme - Day 1

I found this lolita meme, and thought “why not do it?”, so here I go. I’m not sure if I can or even want to keep it up on daily basis, but I’ll do it on my own rhythm anyway (which means that I might do several days in one post, too)! Rules are that anyone who wants to join the challenge is free to do so. Have fun, I know I will have! ;) For my Finnish readers: Sorry, but I’ll be doing this in English only, because I know that you understand English so very well. ♥

Day 1 – 10 things about your lolita bubble.

1. My lolita bubble often includes music. I’ve found out that when I have my mp3 player in sight, people are not so eager to come and ask me difficult questions – such as “But isn’t Lolita that book where the little girl seduces old men?” Really, I almost hate the name of this style – it’s ever so embarrassing to say “Yes, I wear lolita clothes” to strangers!
2. My lolita bubble also includes good friends! When I’m alone in lolita, I feel a little unsecure. When I’m with friends, it’s so much easier! Isn’t it nice to know that you are not the only one who’s “weird” and being stared at?
3. My lolita bubble includes books, too. Books are a great alternative to music! When reading book, I know I will look busy to other people, and so they’ll maybe let me be in peace. Books are funny things, because when I’m reading certain books (Kamikaze Girls by Novala Takemoto, Little Princess by F.H. Burnett), I feel so completely, utterly, inside out lolita – even, if I wasn’t wearing lolita at all. Which leads me to…
4. … the conclusion, that for me and in my lolita bubble, lolita is a state of mind, too – not only clothes.
5. As cute it would be to say “My lolita bubble also includes me sitting home alone in lolita and drinking tea with my dolls”, I can’t say so, because that isn’t the truth. The truth is, my lolita bubble actually does include me sitting home alone wearing lolita, drinking tea and – yes! – spending some time with my laptop! My laptop is named Fred, by the way, and he is just the perfect companion to have some tea with. Oh, sadly that might sound like I didn’t have any life at all… but I do, really.

Ensimmäinen Onnistunut Piknik

Me teimme sen!

Aloitetaan asukuvalla:

Päivänvarjo, mekko, laukku: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
Bolero: Angelic Pretty
Kengät: Minna Parikka
Korut: Kooky Gems, Cawaii, itse tehty.

Lolit ne varjossa vaeltaa.
Näihin kuviin, näihin tunnelmiin. ;)

Translation: Me, Mimi and Kata had a pique-nique on Saturday. This time we had almost healthy food: Italian salad, homemade ice tea, fresh peas, strawberries and cherries, pistacchio nuts and chocolate cupcakes. Mimi red some poetry out loud, and we also played Baby Memory game, which Kata won. My outfit: Dress, parasol, handbag - Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
, bolero - Angelic Pretty, shoes - Minna Parikka, jewelry - Kooky Gems, Cawaii and self made bracelet, hairpiece - second hand, H&M, Ninja.

Uusi laukku!

Kyllä vain, uusi Baby, the Stars Shine Bright'n laukku.

Translation: My new handbag from Baby, the Stars Shine Bright. Because of those calm colors this bag will go with many outfits, and I'm sure I will use it a lot. It also fits quite a bit stuff, which is always good for a girl like me - I tend to carry almost my whole life with me. :D

Askartelua: Käsikoru

Askartelin itselleni päivänä eräänä käsikorun. Yritin saada siihen hieman Angelic Prettyn tyyliä, mutta... no jaa. En löytänyt mistään tismalleen oikean värisiä vaaleanpunaisia helmiä, joten en oikein tiedä, tykkäänkö lopputuloksesta vai en. Mitä mieltä te olette? Hitti vai huti, käyttöön vai purettavaksi?

Translation: I made myself this bracelet. It was supposed to be a little Angelic Prettyish, but... oh well. I couldn't find pink pearls in perfect shade, so I'm not sure, wether I like it or not. What do you think? Yay or Nay?

Dress in Inspiration - Summer 2011

♥ Pukeudu keveisiin kankaisiin.

♥ Roses fit any time of the year, but still they suit the summer best! Accessorize with roses – and other flowers too – as much as you like! Put roses on your hair, wear a dress with a rose print, or wear a rose themed necklace or ring.

♥ The summer is also a wonderful time to wear a tiara! There’s no better time for this princess like accessory like summertime.

♥ Favor delicate shoes. Nothing brings adorable, airy feeling to your outfits better – pumps make even the frilliest outfit seem fresh and chick.

♥ Give your hair a little break. Wear it on simple, fluffy and messy bun. If you happen to have naturally curly hair, enjoy it – curly hair looks especially cute on bun. Decorate your hairdo with roses!

♥ For summery, holiday like feel, wear bright and cheerful candy colors. Find your marshmallow pink, cotton candy blue and mint ice cream green dresses and start to wear them again.

♥ Now it’s the time to find your frilliest parasol and laciest fan also! Even if you aren’t afraid of getting tanned, parasol is an accessory that will draw attention to you and make you stand out from the crowd. And a fan can really safe your life in the hot summer city!

♥ Favor light fabrics. Chiffon, silk, organza – whatever is fairy like enough.

♥ Be brave and wear a jumperskirt without a blouse underneath it! A sweaty girl is never a pretty sight to be seen. In case of a sudden, cold breeze or evening chillyness, carry a bolero in your purse to wear over your jumperskirt.

P.S. No, the inspiration picture is not supposed to be a full outfit, it just happens to look like that a little. :D
