Hellocon 2016 outfit & purchases

Hello, everyone!

I'm trying to get back on track with blogging - and I do have lots of material, too! :'D

So here's my outfit for Helsinki Lolita Convention 2016, also known as the last Hellocon ever. I'm curious to see what's up next.

My theme for the outfit was crazy bunny lady à la crazy bunny lady. Bunnies are one of my favourite, most frequently seen themes nowadays! I've gone on full crazy bunny lady mode and I have no regrets. I've been hoarding lots of bunny themed accessories and home decor stuff lately. I really liked this outfit, and I love that dress! The powder pink bag is a lucky find from Rome - we made another trip there this spring and the Italians really do know how to make cute leather bags and shoes...

Outfit details

Dress - Juliette & Justine
Blouse - Mango
Hair accessories - H&M, second hand
Earrings - Kalevala Jewelry
Brooch - Chocomint
Bag - souvenir from Rome
Shoes - Minna Parikka

My purchases

I'm in a good place financially now that I'm working, so I promised myself that this will be the Hellocon where I am allowed to buy anything I want. And so I did. It was super fun though I did have some quilty feelings later - I'm not used to spending so much money at once. I've been doing a make over in my wardrobe - I've bought quite a few new things, but I've also sold many dresses that don't fit my style anymore.

So, in Hellocon I bought
  • A beautiful Twin Flower dress, handmade of recycled materials
  • Baby's classical heart bag which I have been drooling over ever since I started dressing in lolita fashion a little over decade ago
  • Innocent World's bolero - another thing I've wanted for a very long time
  • Miss Danger Shop's bunny brooch/headdress (what did I say about hoarding bunny stuff?!) and
  • Illves's adorable chubbycorn brooch.

And in the end, some close ups.

Hellocon 2015: The Carnival of Decadence Fashion Show & My Outfits

Good evening, everyone!

We came home from Rome yesterday, and it was a wonderful trip indeed. I'll post pictures from Rome later - there's so much of them it will take some time to sort them out.

In the meanwhile, we shall return to Hellocon 2015 for a moment! I'd like to show you my outfits and the fashion show me and Mimi organized. Let's start with my con outfit. I decided to wear my Magical Etoile JSK by Angelic Pretty, as it suits both the circus theme and the guests of honour. I also got to meet Maki and Asuka briefly. They were very cute and kind and had prepared a special message for the lolitas of Helsinki - adorable!

Here's a better picture of my outfit.

{Dress - Angelic Pretty / purse - Baby, the Stars Shine Bright / shoes - Minna Parikka / star hairclip - Essin Maailma / the rest - offbrand}

And then on to our fashion show, The Carnival of Decadence! I really love how balanced it turned out - all the outfits were equally amazing  on their own, but they also really worked together nicely. I'm so proud of all the models, too - they did great! ♥ (Do watch the video in HD, please!)

Here's all of our lovely models in the order of appearance.

Lauren, our fabulous pirate. She is wearing Alice and The Pirates.

Alice, playing the role of the Carnival guest, also in Alice and The Pirates, if I remember correctly.

Nita, she was a magician. Her outfit was self made - amazing job there!

Inka, the chocolate seller. She threw chocolate into the audience and wore Innocent World and Angelic Pretty.

Cheetahbird, the Carnival guest disguised as a cat! She wore Juliette et Justine.

Elfie the snakewoman, wearing a lovely dress by Victorian Maiden.

Lydia Toivo, the flower girl. She gave pink roses to the audience and looked absolutely adorable in Angelic Pretty.

Veera the swan princess and her epic prop, Teppo the Swan! Veera wore Moi-même-moitié while Teppo rocked a pretty crown.

Me as Ursula the mermaid. My dress is from Cloudberry Lady, and the octopus in my hair is called Inky the Pinky.

Mimi as the dramatic gothic vampire queen. Her dress and parasol are also self made - the parasol especially was astonishing!

Hanna and Karakuri as the circus pony and its trainer. Their outfits are selfmade. The print on Hanna's dress was designed by me.

In the end, all of us together. Thank you so much, all of you lovely ladies and lords, for making this fashion show not only possible, but very special, too! ♥

Well, my dear readers, I guess that's it for now. Did you find a favourite amongst the fashion show outfits? If you did, please do share that in the comments! I might do one more post of Hellocon 2015, so stay tuned for that, too! ;)

Life Via Instagram: Hellocon 2015

Hello, everyone!

So, Hellocon is now over and - a little inside joke, if you don't mind - I survived it! I didn't take that much pictures, because I wanted to concentrate on enjoying the event itself. I used only my phonecamera, because it fitted so cozily into the pocket of my Angelic Pretty dress and was therefore easy to whip out when needed. I will share photos of my outfits and our fashion show later on, but here's some pictures for you already.

1. Ancelic Pretty's dress form with a beautiful outfit.

2. Sweet and Tiny's table. I loved all these, they were so real-looking! It's too bad I don't wear cake jewelry that much anymore...

3. They had really put a lot of effort to decorating the venue this year. There were balloons and banners, which were really pretty. Then there were these adorable little cups of popcorn which the guests could enjoy free of charge. What a wonderful idea!

4. Here's what I got at the event; a book mark, an awesome bunny fascinator (I already forgot whom I bought it from), a bunny brooch and bow by Charming Girls, a super adorable pegasus phonesharm by Illves, Makis's and Asuka's message to Hellocon guests and of course their autographs.

5. A closeup of the phonecharm. Her name is Stella (each Illves charachter has a name) and she looks really lovely with my Baby purse. I already regret not buying more of these cuties, I could have one for each of my purses... *-*

The event was really great. The programs I organized went quite smoothly, and the other programs that I had time to see were really good, too. I did miss out quite a lot because of my own programs, so I'm considering the opportunity that next time I would go there as a guest only and not organize anything. At least right now it seems like a very good idea indeed.

How many of you, dear readers, were at Hellocon? Did you have fun? Please share your experiences and thoughts in the comments!

We're still looking for models to Hellocon 2015 fashion show!

Hei kaikki!

Kaipaamme edelleen hakemuksia The Carnival of Decadence -muotinäytökseemme, joka pidetään Helloconissa 9.5.2015. Pulaa on etenkin karnevaalivieraiden asuista, joten ennen kaikkea toivomme näitä hakemuksia. Ohjeet malliksi hakemiseen löydät täältä. Mallihaun deadline on 15.3.

Olemme saaneet palautetta, että on hieman epäselvää, mitä tarkoitamme karnevaalivieraan asulla. Selvennämme asiaa tämän verran; karnevaalivieraan asu on siis asu, jonka voisit kuvitella laittavasi yllesi eeppisiin lolita-naamiaisiin.

Mari & Mimi

Hello, everyone!

We are still looking for models to The Carnival of Decadence -fashion show that will be held in Hellocon 9.5.2015. We especially need more applications to the Carnival audience's outfits. Instructions for applying can be found here; the English translation is at the bottom. The deadline for applying is 15.3.

We have recieved feedback that it's not clear enough what we mean by the Carnival audience's outfits. So, a Carnival audience themed outift is an outfit that you might wear to an epic lolita masquarade party. All outfits should be as extravagant as possible, as this is a fashion show we're talking about. An outfit and a mask can have a theme (like any masquarade outfit/costume). This theme could be, for example, teacups. In this case the model's headdress, mask, outfit and possible props (e.g. a teapot and a teacup) should represent this same theme. We hope that this made things a little more clear. We would also like to point out that all models and outfits are equally important. Everyone will have their time in the limelights and nobody has to act as a background.

If you would like to apply for modeling, but you are still unsure about something, please feel free to ask me or Mimi. There is no such thing as a silly question. We are happy to help and give tips for you! If you have a question regarding your fashion show outfit, please send it to newvoguechildren [at] outlook [dot] com. If you have general questions about the fashion show, modeling or applying, you may leave a comment to this post.

With best wishes us organizers,

Mari & Mimi

Mallihaku Helloconiin 2015 / Fashion Show Models For Hellocon 2015

Hei kaikki!

Olemme nyt saaneet aika hyvin hakemuksia Helloconin muotinäytökseen sirkusteemaisiin asuihin. Kaipaisimme etenkin karnevaalivieraita edustavia asuja, joten rohkeasti vaan lähettämään hakemuksia!

Parhain terveisin me järkkärit,

Mari & Mimi

Hi everyone!

We have now received quite many model applications for Hellocon fashion show that represent the circus theme. We would very much like to receive some applications for Carnival audience's outfits as well, so please do not hesitate to send your applications in! If you are not sure what kind of outfits we are looking for, please feel free to ask tips from us organizers! We are happy to help you. If you would like to apply in English, please leave a comment with your e-mail address and I will send the translated instructions for applying.

Please notice, that models with Carnival audience's outfits will also have their time in the limelight. All outfits are equally important and no one will have to just stay in the background. One model applicant was worried about this so we thought we'd make this clear. ;)

With best wishes us organizers,

Mari & Mimi

Helsinki Lolita Convention 2014: The Fairy Forest Fashion Show

Hello, my lords and ladies!

It's been so long since Hellocon, but the videos and pictures have only been recently published, so I'll post about it now. I've been especially waiting to see our own fashion show's, The Fairy Forest's, official video, which my dear friend filmed for us. This fashion show takes place in the forest of fairytales, and the outfits are inspired by classical folk tales and Eastern Europe. I organized the show with Hanna and Anna. I know there are some things that need improvement, but all in all, I'm so proud of this show and all the models who worked so hard to make it happen. ♥

The official video:

And then the same in pictures. First, Mimi as The Evil Queen.

Kata as Snow White.

Hanna as The Little Red Riding Hood.

Anna as The Matryoshka Doll.

Katariina as The Desperate Prince and Sari as The Ecoistic Princess.

Me as The Golden Unicorn.

Ilona as The Owl.

Susanna as The Swan Princess and victim to the cursed apple.

In this picture, you can also see a glimpse Kati of as The Fox (the second from left), and of Satu, who was The Rescuing Knight (the first from right).

P.S. The Eastern Europe inspiration may not be so visible in all of the outfits - of course there is no such influence in all of them, since the theme was fairytales also, but e.g. Satu is wearing black, white and gold; the colours of Romanov family crest. ;)

Hellocon 2014: My Purchases

Good afternoon, lords and ladies!

Last weekend I attended Hellocon (Helsinki Lolita Convention). I was also organising "The Fairy Forest" fashion show, Essi's memorial corner and the Hellocon Tea Party event. I will do several posts about this event, because there will be so much pictures and videos, that there's no point exploding your screens with all of them at the same time. :P

So first, some purchases. I didn't shop that much, and I'm happy about that. But I did purchase this Rose Melody dress:

It's quite lovely even though up close you can tell it's not brand quality. (That's why I usually prefer brand or handmade dresses to offbrand.)  I really like this dress, though. Especially the upper part, which looks somewhat underwearish - and yes, I like that. I know it's wrong to say this about a lolita dress, but it does look a little bit sexy!

I also like the colours and the hem, it's of good lenght and the embroidery is lovely. The only thing that bothers me about this dress is the lace on the waist. I'll have to see if it can be removed.

And this Baby, the Stars Shine Bright bolero. It's so cute, soft and very versatile. I'll be wearing this one a lot during next Summer!

Helsinki Lolita Convetion: My Outfits - and Mimi's, too

Hello hello!

In this post I want to show you my - and Mimi's! - outfits from Helsinki Lolita Convention.

In the very beginning of the convention me and Kati held a lecture about the history of fashion, and how to take inspiration from it for lolita outfits. We both wore outfits influenced by a historical era; my era was Rococo, and Kati's was Victorian. I'm happy we could tell a bit about the more rare eras in lolita, such as Reneissaince and Baroque, even though we had too little time and had to skip Belle Epoque and Vintage years completely. :/

Here's an outfit shot of my first outfit. The Marie Antoinette OP is from Baby, the Stars Shine Bright and shoes are from Minna Parikka. My face looks like I ran away from "Interview With the Vampire", but I think that's kinda cool (because I love Anna Rice's books anyway).

The fashion show me and Mimi modeled in ("Ehdotonta eleganssia", or "Absolute Elegance" in English) was right after our lecture, so I had to make a quick chance. Luckily we had so many models, and lovely Mimi helped me too, and all went well. :3

As you can see, me and Mimi twinned. The Unicornia Regalia dresses are hand made by Mimi, and the unicorn horns are from Essin maailma.

That's all for now! I will post one more post about Helsinki Lolita Convention in couple of days time, so stay tuned. (And the third post will be the last post, I promise. ;3)

EDIT: Forgot to mention, that naturally all these pictures are taken by our talented Sanni

Shopping

Good afternoon, lords and ladies!

So, Helsinki Lolita Convention happened yesterday. I only slept maybe two hours before the convention, and was totally dead after it, but what a great day it was! I had so much fun, I watched all the fashion shows (well, not the one I modeled in) and almost all the panels, too. And of course I met many of my friends and did some nice purchases too.

Sadly all the pictures I tried to take of fashion shows failed; I've not yet learned to use my new camera. So I'll have to wait for the official photographers' pictures to appear before I have any material to post here. :'D

But anyhow, here are my newest purchases. The first two I bought before the convention, and the rest during it.

Let's start with this adorable little octopus necklace I found from Etsy. It came with a pretty box.

Here is my newest tea set. I love the fresh colours (they make me think of Spring! *-*) and the Asian influences in design of this tea set. The pot is quite small (under 1 litre), so I only bought 4 cups and 4 plates. For bigger parties I have my Lomonosov set with 6 cups. :)

And these are my finds from Helsinki Lolita Convention.

First, this Baby, the Stars Shine Bright OP. It has some old school feeling in it, which is nice. Those who have read my blog longer know already my weakness for flower prints. One can not have too many flower prints in her closet (in my opinion, at least).

What I really fell for in this dress are the colours of the print! Shades of pink and red are very common in flower prints, but this one has shades of lilac and mossy green! It's quite rare and very elegant. To me this dress is a perfect mixture of sweet design and classical colours.

I also bought this Kraken necklace from Essin maailma. Essi had made this unique little fellow especially for me, using my sketch as a model. It's so cuuuute. ♥ I intend to wear it with lolita, though I've yet to figure out how I'm going to to that. I don't have any sea themed prints, and so this will be missmatching - but then again, the longer I wear lolita, the less I really care about matching perfectly. It gets boring.

I also bought this dress for everyday use. I love the lace details and the polkadots, and of course the colour too (dark blue is one of my favorite colours). It's cute and very comfortable to wear. The perfect dress to cheer up my long school days.

And then there is this headband. More polkadots!

And lastly, I found cute stickers! I'm going to use them to cutify my school folders a littlebit.

In the end, a bonus pic: Essin maailma's table! So many lovely colours and cute designs! Those jellyfish necklaces were so awesome I had to use all my will power not to buy one. :3
